Reproducibility and responsiveness of a Danish Pedi‐IKDC subjective knee form for children with knee disorders

Abstract: The modified International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (Pedi-IKDC) is a widely used patient-reported tool ranging on a scale from 0 to 100. We aimed to translate Pedi-IKDC into Danish and assess its reproducibility and responsiveness in children with knee disorders. The translation complied with the international guidelines. Reproducibility was assessed in 53 children (15 years) responding Pedi-IKDC at baseline and after 3-14 days. For analysis of responsiveness, 94 children (15 years) re… Show more

“…Patients were contacted and the Italian version [ 14 ] of the pediatric International Knee Documentation Committee score (Pedi-IKDC) (score of 0 to 100 with higher score equivalent to less pain and better function, and a minimally clinical important difference of 12 points) [ 15 , 16 ], and the Hospital for Special Surgery pediatric Functional Activity Brief Scale (Pedi-FABS) [ 17 ] (score 0 to 30 with higher score meaning better performance) were administered. Return to sport and further surgeries were inquired as well.…”

“…The Pedi-IKDC has demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient = 0.9-0.91) [73,74]. The testretest reliability was excellent (ICC = 0.9) and the SEM has been reported at 4.1 [74].…”

“…A sub-analysis specifically for patellofemoral instability was not performed, nor was it performed in the subsequent Danish translation validation. Psychometric testing of the Pedi-IKDC reported below is taken from large groups of pediatric patients with a variety of knee conditions that included 17-27% patellofemoral instability [73,74].…”

“…The score was intermediate, mainly because no comparisons of similar patient groups in the original language (English) and the target language were made. In the updated review, eight additional studies 48 15,53,57,58,62,67,121,125 were assessed; two had a good methodological score, three had fair. The low methodological quality in many studies (the Swedish version included) were mainly due to small samples and no differential function item (DIF) testing.…”

“…In the systematic review, responsiveness was given a strong positive score, which was further strengthened in the updated review. In the update, seven studies with methodological score fair 15,54,57,121 , good 95 and excellent 68,92 had good result for responsiveness, mainly assessed with measures of area under the curve (AUC) and hypothesis testing.…”
