Introduction: The Alberta Infant Motor Scale (Alberta Scale in the text) is used globally to evaluate the motor development, in both preterm and term children under the18 months of birth, in Colombia the tool is used, but there is few information about the results it gives when applied in our environment. Objectives: characterize a retrospective cohort of children under 1 year according to the Alberta Scale to generate information about the results of the application of this one in Colombian population attended in a fourth level hospital. Methods: Descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study, where the medical histories of 411 children with corrected age between 0 and 12 months of birth and background of gestational age under 40 weeks were evaluated. To all the children were applied the Alberta Scale between 2010 and 2016 and the scores according to this were statistically analyzed in a descriptive form. Results: Most of the patients were classified by the scale as "normal development" as it was expected from their background, the children of our sample present lower scores than the original Canadian sample at all the ages. Conclusion: The scale showed to be useful at the screening of the normal child, however, the patients presented lower scores when evaluated by the scale than in the original study, evidence is generated about the need to validate the scale in Colombia and to generate reference curves for this.

“…La escala evalua las habilidades motoras gruesas de niños entre 0 y 18 meses de nacidos y ha sido ampliamente utilizada con este fin en gran variedad de paises, siendo revalida para este fin 20 años después con una muestra escogida de seis hospitales de diferentes ciudades de Canadá, y con criterios para representar demográfica y etnicamente a la poblacion Canadiense (6) la escala tambien ha sido validada en paises tan diversos como Grecia, Japón y Brasil siendo este ultimo de especial importancia por las potenciales similitudes entre su poblacion y la nuestra (7)(8)(9). Dada su amplia difusion se han realizado curvas de referencia locales, y analisis transculturales para adaptarla a las diferentes condiciones de la poblacion local, incluyendo de nuevo a Brasil entre los paises que cuentan con este tipo de estudios demostrando la versatilidad de la herramienta y tambien el requerimiento de creacion de valores de referencia para entornos especificos (10-12) sin que existan estudios similares en nuestro pais, en Colombia se ha probado su repoductibilidad interobservador (13).…”

RESUMENObjetivos La escala motora infantil de Alberta (escala de Alberta en el texto) es utilizada a nivel mundial para evaluar el desarrollo motor en niños menores de 18 meses tanto pretérmino como a término. En Colombia la herramienta es utilizada, pero hay poca información sobre los resultados que arroja. El objetivo del estudio fue caracterizar a una cohorte retrospectiva de niños menores de un año según la escala de Alberta para generar información sobre los resultados de la aplicación de esta en población colombiana atendida en un hospital de cuarto nivel. Métodos Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, transversal, donde se evaluaron las historias clínicas de 411 niños con edad corregida entre 0 y 12 meses de edad y antecedentes de edad gestacional de menos de 40 semanas, a todos los niños se les aplico la escala de Alberta entre 2010 y 2016 y los puntajes según esta se analizaron estadísticamente en forma descriptiva. Resultados La mayoría de los pacientes fueron clasificados por la escala como "desarrollo normal" como se esperaría por sus antecedentes, los niños de nuestra muestra presentan puntajes inferiores a los de la muestra original de Canadá en todas las edades. Conclusiones La escala se mostró útil en el tamizaje del niño normal, sin embargo, los pacientes presentaron menores puntajes al ser evaluados por la escala que en el estudio original, se genera evidencia sobre la necesidad de validar la escala en Colombia y generar curvas de referencia para esta.Palabras Clave: Técnicas de diagnóstico neurológico; desarrollo infantil; actividad motora (fuente: DeCS, BIREME).
