Abstract:This report summarizes the issues discussed during a Symposium of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, entitled "Interactions for Dispersed Systems in Newtonian and Viscoelastic Fluids," which was held in March 2006 in Guanajuato, Mexico.
“…3 Several meetings on the same or similar themes have been held in the intervening years. 4,[69][70][71][72] Hinch's opening remarks were followed by presentations which fell largely into two groups: one where the phenomena described are due to hydrodynamic interactions between the dispersed particles, and another where inter-particle contact plays a significant role. Of the former group, three long-standing problems on the effects of hydrodynamic interactions on sedimenting particles were addressed.…”
This report summarizes the presentations and discussions conducted during the symposium, which was held under the aegis of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics during 23-27 January 2012 in Bangalore, India.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
