Replantation of a vertically fractured maxillary central incisor after repair with adhesive resin

Abstract: * Replantation of root-filled incisors with complete vertical root fracture after resin bonding might be a realistic alternative to extraction. * Practitioners should be aware of the possible disadvantages as well as advantages associated with failure of a replanted incisor with complete vertical root fracture.

“…In this study, a promising method 7,8,18) to reattach the root fragments in CVRF was investigated. Although this method is Table 2 µTBS to human root dentin after different water storage periods debatable and root resorption caused by ankylosis cannot be avoided 21) , an immediate replantation and long-term maintenance of the natural tooth would be of great value to patients, avoiding advanced surgical procedures and financial costs resulting from advanced prosthetic replacement.…”

“…Regeneration of cementum and periodontium can be expected when the space of the cement is small 8,18) . The tensile strength of root dentin is considered important in understanding not only the characteristics of root dentin but also the high occurrence of CVRF.…”

“…Methods of extraction, bonding the fractured segments, and replantation of the bonded segments that are similar to those of Trope et al 11) have been used in many recent studies, [12][13][14][15][16][17] in which bonding resin and resin cement were used to fix the fractured teeth segments instead of glass-ionomer cement. The 4-META/MMA-TBB resin cement (Super-Bond C&B, Sun Medical, Kyoto, Japan) is the most frequently used type of resin cement, as it has been reported to have superior biocompatibility.…”

“…Although several treatment approach have been used to preserve VRFs cases, such as utilizing CO 2 laser to fuse VRFs [2], and intentional re-plantation with adhesive resin cement [3][4][5], no specific treatment has been provided ideal long term results. VRFs reconstruction with adhesive resin cement has shown successful outcome in several studies [6][7][8][9].…”
