Three streams of thought are important, including a general concept of family-focused work, the centrality of relationship in development and, increasingly in child and youth care work, activity and activity programming. Activity-oriented family-focused work builds on working in the life space of the child and his family to consider what family members do together, how those activities contribute to or inhibit development and family relationships, and expanded possibilities for the worker's relationship with the members of the family.
