Renoprotective effects of cinnamon oil against APAP-Induced nephrotoxicity by ameliorating oxidative stress, apoptosis and inflammation in rats

Abstract: Acetaminophen (APAP) is used as a primary medication in relieving moderate pain and fever. However, APAP is associated with toxic effects in renal tissue that appear because of its free radicals property. The principle goal of the present work is to assess the kidney damage by APAP and its restore antioxidative property of cinnamon oil (CO). Animals were distributed into six animals each in six groups. Rats were administered with three varying doses of CO from 50 to 200 mg/kg b.w. respectively and only a singl… Show more

“…Recently, research has found that the aqueous extract of Cinnamomum zeylanicum stem barks can attenuate diclofenac sodium and oxytetracycline mediated hepatorenal toxicity by modulating oxidative stress, cell apoptosis, and inflammation in male albino rats [19]. Also, cinnamon oil protects kidney against acetaminophen-induced nephrotoxicity by ameliorating oxidative stress, apoptosis, and inflammation in rats [20].…”

“…Oxidative stress has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various nephrotoxic drugs [ 89 , 90 ]. Moreover, in numerous renal illnesses, apoptosis is frequently involved [ 91 , 92 ]. Herein, SS substantially increased MDA and Caspase-3 amounts in the kidney tissue but depleted SOD, GPx, and BCL-2.…”

“…in cell cultures and animal models exposed to chemotherapeutic agents and heavy metals. [12][13][14][15] Cinnamon extracts' anti-diabetic and antiapoptosis activity has been attributed to potent antioxidant profile of its constituents, including polyphenols and cinnamaldehyde. 16,17 In the meantime, there is still limited evidence regarding the effect and mechanism of cinnamon extract in preventing brain apoptosis.…”
