Existence of fossil fuels in the near future is not promising because of their depletion at a faster rate and their limited availability. Further, owing to the global warming this energy has drawn global attention towards renewable energy resources. In such a scenario, wave power can cater the power needs of upcoming generations which is green and clean. Our objective is to develop a model which can be used for efficient conversion of wave energy into electrical power. In the present study the concept of buoyancy has been utilized to pump the ocean water and storing it at a higher elevation. From this elevation, the potential energy of water can be converted into kinetic energy for power generation. From the study undertaken, it is observed that the possibility of electricity generation by using this method and on conducting the experiment, it is observed that for a wave power of 150W, only 10% of the wave power has been converted and stored in the form of potential energy of water and the remaining unutilized wave power shows that there still exists scope for research work for improving the efficiency of extraction

Summary In the modern world, only conventional energy resources cannot fulfil the growing energy demand. Electricity is a fundamental building block of a technological revolution. Today, most of the electricity demand is met by the burning of fossil fuels but at the cost of adverse environmental impact. In order to bridge the gap between electricity demand and supply, nonconventional and eco‐friendly means of energy generation are considered. Renewable energy systems (RESs) offer an adequate solution to mitigate the challenges originated due to greenhouse gasses (GHG). However, they have an unpredictable power generation with specific site requirements. Grid integration of RESs may lead to new challenges related to power quality, reliability, power system stability, harmonics, subsynchronous oscillations (SSOs), power quality, and reactive power compensation. The integration with energy storage systems (ESSs) can reduce these complexities that arise due to the intermittent nature of RESs. In this paper, a comprehensive review of renewable energy sources has been presented. Application of ESSs in RESs and their development phase has been discussed. Role of ESSs in increasing lifetime, efficiency, and energy density of power system having RESs has been reviewed. Moreover, different techniques to solve the critical issues like low efficiency, harmonics, and inertia reduction in photovoltaic (PV) systems have been presented. Unlike most of the available review papers, this article also investigates the impact of FACTS technology in RESs‐based power system using multitype flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controllers. Three simulation models have been developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that FACTS devices help to maintain the stability of RESs integrated power system. This review paper is believed to be of potential benefit for researchers from both the industry and academia to develop better understanding of challenges and solution techniques for REs‐based power systems and future research dimensions in this area.

Indian power generation sector has increased by 40% from 199 GW in FY12 to over 327 GW in FY17 to become the fifth largest power generation sector globally. India's power transmission network has also grown in sync with the generation sector to enable the evacuation of additional power produced. Renewable power has played a pivoted role in this expansion with its increased contribution in the overall generation mix from 24.5 GW in FY12 to over 57.3 GW in FY17. This paper discusses several drivers such as government's renewable power targets, Central and state-level incentives, declining technology costs and facilitating sale of renewable power along with others that continue to outpace the barriers prevalent around poor financial condition of State Electricity Boards, challenges in renewable integration, concerns regarding sustainability of low renewable power tariffs and non-enforcement of renewable purchase obligations. The paper also an outlook of the overall renewable as well as solar and wind technology space.
