Renal metastasis from pancreatic adenocarcinoma: a rare case along with literature review

Abstract: Metastatic masses in the kidney are rare, and metastasis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma to the kidney is even rarer. A 58-year-old male patient with macroscopic hematuria presented to the emergency department. Abdominopelvic computed tomography revealed a lesion that was not visualized as a complete mass but instead appeared as a patch extending from the pelvis to the parenchyma. Biopsy indicated metastasis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma to the right kidney. These findings indicate that metastatic pancreatic adeno… Show more

“…Further, metastasis of tumors in major organs was monitored one month after the inoculation of KPC allografts. Consistent with the patients bearing PDAC, liver and lung are the major metastatic sites for orthotopic KPC models (Figure A,B). , Tumors were also observed in spleen and kidney due to invasion of the peritoneal cavity . Histology shows large nodules of metastasis in the lung, spleen, and liver of the control group (Figure C).…”

“…According to our review, only one case has been reported. 38 This patient initially presented with hematuria and the CT scan revealed “increased kidney dimensions, particularly in the right renal midsection; decreased cortex-medulla distinction; thinning at the middle and inferior part of the cortex; and a patch-like lesion lacking a clear image extending from the renal pelvis to the cortex”. 38 Three months later, this patient was admitted to the hospital for a pulmonary embolism.…”

“…The comparison of MIA-PaCa-2 orthotopic models in B-NDG and ZZU001 (Table 1 ) demonstrates that the ZZU001 orthotopic tumor model presents a more accurate representation of human PC than the mouse models, particularly with regards to distant metastasis and local infiltration of cancer cells. Interestingly, ZZU001 xenograft models show a high frequency of kidney metastasis (40% in the subcutaneous model and 100% in the orthotopic model), although kidney metastasis of PC in humans has not been extensively reported[ 22 ]. This warrants further investigation.…”
