Removal of Levofloxacin from aqueous solution by Magnesium-impregnated Biochar: batch and column experiments

Abstract: Adsorption of levofloxacin (LEV) onto four types of magnesium (Mg)-impregnated biochars, fabricated via thermal pyrolysis of wood chips pretreated with MgSO 4 was investigated. The Mg-impregnated biochars were characterized with various tools and techniques. Batch sorption experiments were conducted to determine the sorption kinetics and isotherms of LEV onto the Mg-impregnated biochars. The pseudo-second order kinetic model described the adsorption kinetic data better than the pseudo-first order kinetic model… Show more

“…Batch as well as continuous fixed column experiments was carried out in order to remove antibiotics, levofloxacin. Effect of different flow rate, initial concentration and bed depth was analyzed (Zhao et al 2018). Xu and team member prepared carbon nanotube (CNT) and utilized as an adsorbent for removal of 2-naphthol.…”

“…54 Through FTIR investigations, some levo bands were observed in the Zn-Al LDH/levo nanocomposite spectrum, which conrmed the successful loading of levo onto the Zn-Al LDH surface, as observed in the appearance of peaks at 2037, 1497 and 1087-1036 cm À1 , which are related to C-O-C, C-O and C-F, respectively. 28,47,50,[54][55][56][57][58] Besides this, some peaks were shied to a lower wavenumber, as shown in Table 2. 3.1.3.…”

“…The PKS biochar used as a precursor for Mg-PKS biochar composite was prepared through fast carbonization via rotary kiln (800ºC, 10 min), followed by steam activation for 8 h. The biochar was washed with distilled water to eliminate impurities and dried before mineral treatment. PKS biochar (0.5 mm, 20 g) were soaked in 500 mL MgSO 4 .7H 2 O (30ºC, 60 h) (Zhao et al, 2018), vacuum filtered, and oven-dried (90ºC for 12 h). The Mg-PKS biochar composite was then carbonized (500ºC, 30 min) (Zhao et al, 2018).…”
