Removal of hydrogen sulfide by zinc oxide nanoparticles in drilling fluid

Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide is a very dangerous, toxic and corrosive gas. It can diffuse into drilling fluid from formations during drilling of gas and oil wells. Hydrogen sulfide should be removed from this fluid to reduce the environmental pollution, protect the health of drilling workers and prevent corrosion of pipelines and equipments. In this research nano zinc oxide with 14-25 nm particle size and 44-56 m 2 /g specific surface area was synthesized by spray pyrolysis method. The synthesized nanoparticles were used … Show more

“…Zinc, zinc oxide and zinc sulfide nanoparticles are used for various biomedical, petrochemical and antibacterial applications due to their reactive characteristics (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16)(17). Synthesis of nano ZnO, nano ZnS and nano Zn is done by physical and chemical methods, which require high temperatures or pressure.…”

“…Zinc compounds are often used in the removal of H 2 S. 99 A preferred compound is ZnO, that is cheap, readily available and has minimum associated health risks. A slurry of ZnO particles is made in a solvent, often water, and the sour gas is passed through.…”
