Removal of high concentration phenol from aqueous solutions by electrochemical technique

Abstract: In this study, the ability of the electrochemical process to remove aqueous high concentration phenol using an electrochemical cell with aluminum anode and cathode was examined. The removal rate of phenol was monitored using different parameters phenol concentration, pH, electrolysis time, current density, and electrode distance. Obtained results indicated that the low removal rates of phenol were observed at both low and high pH. However, the removal rate of phenol increased with an increase in the current de… Show more

“…and safer in comparison with other types of charcoal when turning carbon to stable form. As a material which is environmentally friendly and low-cost.From the literature, adsorbents were prepared from environmentally friendly materials, such as [5] prepared pillared clay as an adsorbent from Iraqi clays, [6] prepared the adsorbent from tea leaves, while, [7] prepared adsorbent from a waste of tea. Figure (1) shows pyrolysis as a combustion stage [4].…”

“…Phenolic compounds are categorized as one of the most hazardous compounds in the environment (Hejazi et al, 2019;Mojoudi et al, 2019;Pantić et al, 2021), and phenol is chosen as the model pollutant in this study because it has been listed as a priority pollutant due to its toxicity and hard biodegradability once it is discharged into the natural environment. The high toxicity and low biodegradability of phenol pose a severe threat to the environment, even in low concentrations (Alnasrawy et al, 2021). Phenol and its derivative compounds may cause blindness, liver and pancreas damage, kidney failure, dark urine, paralysis, nervous disorder, and cancer (Parada Jr et al, 2019;Thang et al, 2019).…”
