Removal of cobalt from aqueous solution using xanthate functionalized dendrimer

Abstract: Removal of cobalt from aqueous solution by indigenously synthesized xanthate functionalized dendrimer (XFD) was investigated. Effect of pH and interference due to complexing agents/other cations on removal of cobalt by precipitation method was studied. Loading capacity of XFD as a function of cobalt concentration was estimated; about 0.355 g of cobalt could be loaded per gram of XFD at pH 4.5. It was observed that quantitative precipitation is effective at pH > 3 and the suspended particles are not settling do… Show more

“…5 81 kJ mol À1 and 9.64 kJ mol À1 for U and Th, respectively. 14 (ii) DGA functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes were used for tetravalent Pu 4+ and hexavalent PuO 2 2+ actinide sorption, and the sorption energy estimated using the D-R isotherm was found to be 18.9 kJ mol À1 and 17.0 kJ mol À1 , respectively. 15 (iii) Diglycolamide calix [4]arene based resins have also been employed for Th 4+ sorption where the D-R analysis revealed the sorption energy to be 17.9 kJ mol À1 .…”

“…For example, Co(II) was selectively removed from aqueous solutions by using a synthesised xanthate functionalised dendrimer in solution (Ilaiyaraja, Singha, Ponraju, & Venkatraman, 2014). Moreover, the use of dendrimers in drug delivery and fuel cells has also been investigated (Zinselmeyer, Mackay, Andreas, & Uchegbu, 2002;Taylor & Moore, 1998).…”

“…It is also a significant environmental pollutant. [2][3][4] It is therefore very attractive to develop Co(II)-sensing reagents for potential applications in humans and the environment. Recently, many chemosensors have been reported for the determination of cobalt.…”
