Removal of Cd(II) from aqueous solution by using polyaniline/polystyrene nanocomposite

Abstract: One of the suitable methods for removing heavy metals from water and waste water is the use of a surface adsorption process. In this study, polyaniline/polystyrene (PAn/PS) nanocomposite was prepared in aqueous solution by the polymerization of styrene and aniline using potassium iodate and ammonium peroxydisulfate as oxidants in the presence of surfactive dopant sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) as surfactant. The capability of separating Cd(II) ions was studied, and the results were … Show more

“…as can be seen in figure the characteristic peaks of the PAni.PS blend were shown at 1740 cm -1 (C=C stretching vibration of the quinoid ring), 1493 cm -1 (stretching vibration of C=C of the benzenoid ring), 1263 cm -1 (C-N stretching vibration), 1103 cm -1 (C-H in-plane defo rmation), 806 cm -1 (C-H out-of-plane deformation) selected to polyaniline. In addition, characteristic absorbtion band at 2968 cm -1 (methylene C-H stretching) are asigned to polystyrene [10].…”
