Abstract. The effectiveness of A 2 /O-MBR integrated process has been studied for domestic wastewater reclamation to meet the latest Beijing pollutant emission standards. Experimental results showed that high DO concentrations in the aerobic tank improved COD Cr , NH 3 -N, and TP removals, whereas the TN removal increased initially and then decreased. Increasing the internal reflux ratio promoted the removal of TN, howbeit negligibly affected the removals of COD Cr , NH 3 -N, and TP. The removals of COD Cr , NH 3 -N, and TN rose with HRT, but the extent of rising became limited as HRT larger than 9 h. Membrane fouling rate increased with running time, and accelerated by improving membrane flux. When the system parameters are set at optimized conditions, i.e. the DO concentration of 2.0 mg/L, the internal reflux ratio of 250%, HRT of 9 h, and ozonation for 20 min, the major water quality of outlet remains stable and meets Grade A of Beijing local standards for new wastewater treatment plant (DB 11890-2012).

Swine wastewater contains high amounts of organic matter and nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus). The biological nitrogen removal can be achieved by nitrification and denitrification processes. Nitrification-denitrification can be performed via nitrite which is called as the short-cut process. This Short-cut process saves up to 25% of oxygen and 40% of external carbon during nitrification and denitrification. In this study, the batch tests were conducted to assess the different parameters for the nitrite sulfur utilizing denitrification, such as alkalinity, temperature, initial nitrite concentration, and dissolved oxygen. The experimental results showed that the nitrite removal efficiency of the reactor was found to be over 95% under the optimum condition (30℃ and sufficient alkalinity). Autotrophic nitrate denitrification was inhibited at low alkalinity condition showing only 10% removal efficiency, while nitrite denitrification was achieved over 95%. The nitrite removal rates were found similar at both 20℃ and 30℃. In addition, nitrite removal efficiencies were inhibited by increasing oxygen concentration, but sulfate concentration increased due to sulfur oxidation under an aerobic condition. Sulfate production and alkalinity consumption were decreased with nitrite compared those with nitrate.

Abstract. In this examination we have experimented the effect of ammonia concentration on shortcut nitrification and denitrification in a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR). The results show that, when the influent ammonia concentration slowly increased to 200 mg/L, the ammonia removal rate and the nitrite accumulation rate were respectively 92.7% and 84.2%, which were better than that of other influent ammonia concentration. And when the influent ammonia concentration was 200 mg/L, the average TN removal rate was also better than other influent ammonia concentration, which was 56.0%. The TN removal rate increased first and then decreased with the influent ammonia concentration increase.
