Remote laboratory trends for Distance Vocational Education and Training (D-VET): A real-time lighting application

Abstract: This research presents a web-based lighting laboratory infrastructure that allows students to access and control application tools in lighting technology education through online real-time equipment. Designed for Distance Vocational Training and Education, this system uses the LabVIEW Virtual Instrumentation Program to control lighting levels. In this program, the interface developed allows students to control and monitor applications online using cameras, sensors, and controllers. In the modeled system, the l… Show more

“…According to Polat and Ekren (2020), students can gain access to computer-simulated processes through virtual labs while remote labs provide the ability for students to work with actual data rather than simulated ones. The use of In Indonesia, Virtual Cloud Automotive Laboratory was designed to enable industries to share competency and occupational materials in light vehicle or automotive engines that can be accessed by students and lecturers (Dede et al, 2020).…”

“…web-based laboratories in TVET enables them to develop and prepare students in advance of practical training tasks in the lab. The study ofPolat and Ekren (2020) stated that the web-based lighting laboratory infrastructure which allowed students practising the application through online real-time equipment increased the theoretical knowledge of doing remote experiments Rahman et al (2020). also reported that TVET education is based on performance-based learning and emphasized the practical skills.…”

“…The LabVIEW has been effectively and efficiently included in many studies in literature to enhance and boost the research community. Polat et al [17], designed the Distance Vocation Education and Traning D-VET to monitor the lighting levels of LED lamps in remote laboratory with the help of PID controller, Sensor, Actuator, NI-IMAQ software and CompactRIO DAQ.…”

“…1) Designing LOs of the Laboratory Activity Existing studies suggest non-prescriptive and unstandardized LOs enhances students' learning processes [12]. Therefore, we designed the LOs of each activity through FPI, such that they signal both instructors and learners that there is no ambiguity in aligning the learning tasks and the objectives.…”

“…However, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected educational institutions worldwide. The closure of universities has led to a sudden shift of group design project away from the workshop studio to online learning [12,13]. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted all face-to-face sessions that affected both learning activities and assessments.…”
