Remote Experimentation: Integrating Research, Education, and Industrial Application

Abstract: This paper presents a low-cost scaled model of a silo for drying and airing cereal grains. It allows the control and monitor of several parameters associated to the silo's operation, through a remote accessible infrastructure. The scaled model consists of a 2.50 m wide x 2.10 m long plant with all control and monitor capacities provided by micro-Web servers. An application running on the micro-Web servers enables storing all parameters in a data basis for later analysis. The implemented model aims to support a… Show more

“…Unlike virtual laboratories, where all processes are simulated, the remote experimentation laboratory allows interaction with real processes allowing the user to an analysis of the practical problems of the real world. The remote experimentation laboratories are those in which the elements are real, their access is virtual and the experiences are real [8,11].…”

“…It is necessary that the inclusion of these technologies can foster the processes of teaching and learning by providing student interaction with more real experiences and from school [7], it is at this level that are consolidated disciplines foundation for the continuation and improvement of courses in the areas of engineering and technology [8].…”

“…Each university participating in the RExNet project acts as a disseminating party within its own country, i.e., spreading access to remote experiments to other surrounding universities. Results of the RExNet project can be seen in [10], [12], and [15]- [20]. This paper is divided as follows.…”
