Remineralization of Primary Molar Dentine With Silver Diamine Fluoride and Sodium Fluoride : An in Vitro Study

Abstract: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) offers a minimally invasive and inexpensive alternative to traditional restorative caries treatment. Aim of this study was to evaluate the mineral density value and remineralization effect of 38% SDF solution and 5% sodium fluoride (NaF) varnish on artificial primary tooth dentin caries lesions.Materials and Methods: 54 extracted sound primary molars were demineralized and allocated into two groups: SDF and NaF groups. After pH-cycling, mineral density values (MDV) were assessed w… Show more

“…In this study, the pH cycling model, commonly utilized in analogous scienti c investigations, was adopted. The formulation of demineralization and remineralization solutions adhered to compositions frequently cited in the literature [27][28][29][30]46]. This method enables facile replication of uctuations in intraoral pH levels observed in daily life.…”

“…Forty-eight specimens were treated with appropriate experimental material, and a seven-day pH cycle was implemented to mimic pH uctuations observed in the oral environment [26]. The demineralization and remineralization solutions used during the pH cycle were prepared based on formulations found in previous literature [25,[27][28][29][30].…”

“…The obtained enamel surfaces were examined under a stereomicroscope, and sanding was repeated in cases the surface was not smooth enough. 8 The obtained samples were embedded in acrylic molds with an inner diameter of 15 mm and a height of 20 mm, with their upper and lower parts parallel to each other, and in such a way that the surfaces to be exposed to demineralization and remineralization were left open. Then, stickers were fixed in the middle of the samples to prepare 4 mm × 4 mm windows.…”

“…Scientifically, patients can derive maximum benefit from non-invasive SDF application, which is less complex than restorative treatment (Clemens et al, 2018). In comparison to conventional restorative treatment, dental caries arrest with fluoride agents is easy to use, noninvasive and advantageous cost (Yilmaz et al, 2020). SDF has been recognized as a therapeutic agent since the 1970s.…”
