Remarks on the Spectrum of Gaseous SeO

Abstract: The emission bands observed by Azam and Reddy and ascribed by them to two systems, b1Σ+, a1Δ–X3Σ−, of SeO are shown to arise from a single system, b1Σ+–X3Σ−. Head-origin separations are employed to derive rough values of Bν′ and these in turn are used to estimate band-origins and thence vibrational constants. The values of the constants derived for b1Σ+ of 80SeO are as follows: Tc = 9724.1 cm−1 (with respect to the minimum in the Ω = 0+, F1 component of X3Σ−, Gν = 836.58(ν + 1/2) – 5.11(ν + 1/2)2, and Bν = 0.4… Show more

“…SeO. The sharp band at 909.1 cm -1 is just above the 906.2 cm -1 gas-phase fundamental [9][10][11] for 80 Se 16 O and it is assigned accordingly. The 2.9 cm -1 blue matrix shift is near the 6.8 cm -1 value for SeN. 18 The observed 16/18 (1.04941) and 76/ 80 (1.00429) 18 isotopic ratios are slightly lower than calculated harmonic isotopic ratios for the diatomic oscillator (1.049 81, 1.004 39) in strong support for this matrix assignment.…”

“…Sulfur dioxide is the major player, occurring all too often in the environment; however, the more reactive SO, S 2 O, OSSO, and SO 3 molecules and (S 2 )(O 2 ) complex are also known. The analogous selenium oxides SeO x ( x = 1, 2, 3) have been characterized. In addition, selenium is expected to form larger molecules that may be more stable than the sulfur analogs. We report here the matrix synthesis of new selenium oxides using five different experimental approaches: (1) photolysis of the (Se 2 )(O 2 ) complex, (2) reaction of Se 2 with O 3 , (3) microwave discharge of Ar/O 2 /Se x mixtures, (4) reaction of Se with O 2 , and (5) photolysis of SeO 2 with and without O 3 present.…”

“…With HCI, two reactive channels are possible to either PH + CI or PCI + H. P(2D) correlates to the ground states of either of these products and reaction is probable. P(2P) correlates only to PH(a l~) + CI if the PH (a l~) state lies at or less than about 7600 cm-l above its ground state, which it ·may do (Barrow & Lemanczyk, 1975). Correlations to PCI + H for this are endothermic.…”
