This article is about one of the most popular discursive strategies in meta-theoretical discourses on the academic study of religion : the continual reference to the distinction between theology and the academic study of religion. This strategy rests on the association of theology with religiousness, phenomenology and hermeneutics, which are then taken as a whole and put in a relation of opposition to science and scientific activity. I intend to show that this strategy produces discursive effects that contradict its explicit content. Some alternative examples of meta-theoretical discourses in which religion is not considered as the enemy of science will be brought in. All these elements are considered in the specific context of the academic study of religion in Canada.Résumé : Cet article aborde l'utilisation, au cours des dernières décennies, d'une des stratégies discursives les plus répandues au niveau métathéorique en sciences des religions: la référence & a g r a v e ; la distinction entre la théologie et les sciences de la religion. Cette stratégie repose, d'une part, sur des liens hâtifs entre la théologie, la religiosité, la phénomé-nologie et l'herméneutique et, d'autre part, sur l'opposition entre « la science » (et ses dérivés) et « la religion ». Nous entendons montrer qu'une telle stratégie produit des effets discursifs qui contredisent son contenu explicite. Nous explorons également quelques sources alternatives de discours méta-théorique, où la religion n'est pas considérée comme l'ennemie de la science.
