Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale

Abstract: ObjectiveThe Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) measures various aspects of psychological resilience in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other psychiatric ailments. This study sought to assess the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (K-CD-RISC).MethodsIn total, 576 participants were enrolled (497 females and 79 males), including hospital nurses, university students, and firefighters. Subjects were evaluated using the K-CD-RISC, th… Show more

“…Multiple items also help to increase reliability and precision of the measure. The multiple item approach using Likert scales was widely accepted in measuring individual resilience to stresses in psychological disciplines (Wagnild and Young 1993, Connor and Davidson 2003, Yu and Zhang 2007, Baek et al 2010, Wang et al 2010, and individual resilience to institutional changes (Marshall and Marshall 2007). As rural households in the MRD have experienced the impacts of annual flood events for years, we argue that using a "subjective well-being approach" helps to identify the ability of households to cope with, adapt to, and benefit from floods.…”

“…Increases in resilience measured with the CD-RISC are strongly associated with clinical improvements in psychiatric patients and reflect global improvements in general functioning [23]. The CD-RISC has been used in various cross-cultural studies with population groups from China [40], Korea [41], Turkey [42], Iran [43], Pakistan [44], Russia [45], and South Africa [46]. It has also been used in adolescents from culturally diverse backgrounds [40,45,46].…”

“…The total of all items will be summed and subscales will not be investigated, as recommended by the authors (Connor & Davidson, 2014). Previous research investigated the reliability of the scale which ranged from r = .70 to r = .90 (Connor & Davidson, 2003;Khoshouei, 2009;Baek, Lee, Joo, Lee, & Choi, 2010), while Cronbach's Alpha was α = .89 (Connor & Davidson, 2003).…”
