Reliability and validity of the Persian lower extremity functional scale (LEFS) in a heterogeneous sample of outpatients with lower limb musculoskeletal disorders

Abstract: The Persian version of the LEFS is a reliable and valid instrument that can be used to measure functional status in Persian-speaking patients with different musculoskeletal disorders of the lower extremity. Implications for Rehabilitation The Persian lower extremity functional scale (LEFS) is a reliable, internally consistent and valid instrument, with no ceiling or floor effects, to determine functional status of heterogeneous patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the lower extremity. The Persian version… Show more

“…For direct measurement of physical performance, in addition to the specific methods and tests that are required, for instance VO 2max , food uptake, and heart rate, subjects must perform a specific task. Indirect methods, on the other hand, employ data collection procedures such as subjects filling out self-reporting questionnaires (7, 9, 10). …”

“…In addition, CFA of the Greek LEFS also supported the one-factor structure of the scale (Stasi et al, 2013). In contrast, two-factor structure was reported for the Persian (Negahban et al, 2014) and German (Naal et al, 2015) versions of the LEFS using EFA methods. No information on items loading pattern was provided for the Persian version while the two-factor structure for the German version was established specifically in patients with total hip or knee replacement with changing loading patterns overtime.…”

“…The results of these factorial analyses formed the basis for the structural hypothesis tested in the current study. Two studies reported a two-factor structure for the LEFS on the basis of EFA (Naal et al, 2015;Negahban et al, 2014). While the authors of the Persian version of LEFS suggested a two-factor structure, they did not provide details on this two-factor structure and the pattern of items loading on these two factors (Negahban et al, 2014).…”
