“…OGTT represents a simple method that has gained widespread use (Ahren & Pacini, 2004) to indirectly assess the in vivo peripheral insulin action and insulin resistance in animals (Liou et al, 2002) and humans (Cox et al, 2004). OGTT was therefore evaluated in the present study to determine the effect of C. glandulosum on insulin resistance.…”

“…Oral glucose tolerance test is acknowledged for indirect assessment of in vivo peripheral insulin action and insulin resistance (Liou et al, 2002). Fractions did not have any effect on normal animal, but prevent drastic increase in serum glucose level after glucose administered.…”

“…Scale bar, 100 m. and we did not examine the serum insulin level in this study. However, Liou et al (2002Liou et al ( , 2004 reported that the polyherbal drug, Rokumi-gan, which is a mixture of six medicinal plants lacking Cinnamomi Cortex and Aconiti Tuber, when compared with Hachimi-jio-gan, showed plasma glucose-lowering action associated with an increase in insulin secretion via the release of acetylcholine from nerve terminals, which stimulates muscarinic cholinoceptors in the pancreatic islets, and Corni Fructus, one of the constituents of Rokumi-gan and/or Hachimi-jio-gan, was identified as the major contributor. Taken together, Hachimi-jiogan led to an increase in the pancreatic insulin level and might also stimulate insulin secretion, but the detailed mechanism requires further investigation.…”
