“…The effect of 0.05% sulfaquinoxaline at different dietary vitamin K levels on plasma prothrombin time, mortality and early growth of ducklings was investigated. The basal diet employed was the corn-soya type without alfalfa meal or supplemental vitamin K. The form of vitamin K investigated in this study was menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite (MPB) which has been shown to promote higher prothrombin times in chicks, particularly in the presence of stress agents such as sulfaquinoxaline, than MSBC (Griminger, 1965;Dua and Day, 1966). The results of this experiment (Table 5) show that 0.05% sulfaquinoxaline markedly increased mortality and prothrombin times and depressed weight at 14 days.…”

“…Factors such as strain, sex and temperature of the bird have been demonstrated to influence vitamin K activity in the fowl in many ways (Charles et al, 1967(Charles et al, , 1968Griminger et al, 1963;Griminger, 1965). Chemical assay methods also may vary, resulting in differences in distinguishing various chemical structures of the vitamin.…”

“…Menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite is another water-soluble form of mendione derivatives. Griminger (1965) concluded that the vitamin K potency of menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite was greater than that of menadione sodiimi bisulfite. The conclusion was based on the observation that the amount of menadione sodium bisulfite required to obtain a short prothrombin time was 1.8 times the amoimt of menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite, whereas the ratio should be 1.36 if the potency of both these two compounds were same on a molar basis.…”
