Relative permittivity of monocomponent and binary solutions of N2O5 in liquid CO2 and their activity in nitration of cellulose

Abstract: Static relative permittivity of liquid carbon dioxide solutions of dinitrogen pentoxide and its mix tures with nitric, acetic or trifluoroacetic acids is measured. The procedure for nitration of cellulose acquired from various natural noncotton sources (wood, linen, hemp) by mixtures of dinitrogen pentoxide and 100% nitric acid in a carbon dioxide medium is developed. A supercritical drying technique is implemented for dehydration of wet nitrocellulose.

“…[164] At the first step, HNO 3 was pumped intoapressure vessel with ac ooling jacket that contained P 2 O 5 or oleum (H 2 SO 4 ·SO 3 )a tÀ25 8Ca nd approximately 10.0 MPa. [164,168,169] Other nitration agents, for example, an HNO 3 /Ac 2 O( 1:1t o1 :5) mixture, can also be used in liquid or scCO 2 media for cellulose nitration. The best yield of 6 (91 %) was achieved with as mall excess (10 %) of N 2 O 5 in the presence of NaF as additive to bind the HNO 3 formed duringt he reaction.…”
