Relationship of Cellular Oxidant and Antioxidant Status with Disease Activity in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract: ÖzetAmaç: Son yıllarda romatoid artrit (RA) gibi inflamatuvar artritlerin patogenezinde reaktif oksijen metabolitlerinin rolüne ilgi oldukça artmıştır. Show more

“…When the rate of oxidants production surpasses the capability of antioxidant systems to eliminate these oxidants products, oxidative stress ensues, which leads to subsequent injury to cells and tissues . Previous clinical studies have shown increased prooxidant and oxidative activities, along with decreased antioxidant defence activities in patients with RA …”

“…Even though increasing number of studies aiming to investigate the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of RA has recently been published, few have examined the association of oxidative stress with RA disease activity and clinical parameters . In addition, in these studies, oxidative stress is measured with enzymatic or nonenzymatic parameters individually not with integrative approaches of total oxidant‐antioxidant status .…”

“…128,129 Antioxidants can delay the disease process of RA. 130 Wu et al 96 Encapsulated MTX and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavengers (polydopamine/manganese dioxide, termed PDA@MnO2) in DMNs to treat RA (Figure 7A). PDA@MNO 2 can quickly reach joint inflammatory parts through the channel generated by DMNs to remove ROS and inhibit inflammation reactions.…”
