Relationship Between Vegetative Flushing and Flowering of Macadamia

Abstract: To study the vegetative flushing pattern of M. integrifolia (cvs. Keaau, Kau and Kakea) trees in Hawaii and determine when these vegetative flushes flower, trees were monitored for an entire year (1988), and shoots from these flushes were monitored for flowering during the 1988-89, 1989-90 and 1990-91 flowering seasons. Flushing occurred year-round but was most frequent during the spring-summer and fall months which coincided with the en… Show more

“…Nagao o C are associated with water loss that subsequently restricts the build-up of oil in the nuts and reduces their quality [37]. For precipitation, various authors have suggested a tolerable annual rainfall ranging from to 4000 mm [35][36][37][38]. Britz reported that macadamia yield in South Africa was lost due to spatiotemporal variability in precipitation and temperature [39].…”

“…Nevertheless, lower day temperatures (≤10 °C) are lethal to the crop. Nagao and Ho found that higher temperatures exceeding 30 °C are associated with water loss that subsequently restricts the build-up of oil in the nuts and reduces their quality [37]. For precipitation, various authors have suggested a tolerable annual rainfall ranging from 510 to 4000 mm [35–38].…”
