Relationship between the modified star excursion balance test and the 4x10 m shuttle run test in children

Abstract: Agility and dynamic balance are crucial skills in prepubertal physical activity and sport participation, so the identification of efficient tests for their assessment is necessary. To evaluate the correlation between agility and dynamic balance in primary school children. Twenty-seven boys and twenty girls aged 10 years, volunteered to participate in the study. The modified Star excursion balance test and the 4x10 m shuttle run test were used in order to assess dynamic balance and agility respectively. Dynamic… Show more

“…For the stability tests two trials were conducted as described in the Luz et al [18] and Rodrigues et al [1] studies. Considering the MCA tests description [18], in the locomotor tests, one additional trial was conducted, since in other contexts those tests were performed three times instead of two [22][23][24]. Thus, to ensure that the best execution would be achieved, three trials were registered.…”

“…These tests have also been used to determine isometric strength, or muscle strength, in many different sections of the population (including amateur-professional, male-female, children, youth and adults) to identify their strength-power profile (Fukuda et al, 2013;Özbay & Ulupınar, 2020;Peterson, Alvar, & Rhea, 2006;Wind et al, 2010). Similarly, according to previous studies, the 4 × 10-m shuttle run test is a reliable test for measuring motor fitness (Calatayud et al, 2017;Ortega et al, 2008). Keeping the characteristics measured by these tests in mind, this study establishes that the ALPHA test battery can be used to assess fitness levels of the overall student population and the athletic performance of the students who participate in school sports.…”

“…Static balance was evaluated as a crucial skill in prepubertal sport participation [26]. A force plate with three strain gauges (PostureWin, Techno Concept, Cereste, France; 40 Hz frequency, 12-bits A/D conversion) was used to measure the CoP displacements.…”
