Relationship between the Amounts of Antibodies to Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae Serotype 2 Detected in Blood Serum and in Fluids Collected from Muscles of Pigs

Abstract: An indirect ELISA method, previously used to detect antibodies to Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 in serum of pigs, was further developed aiming to measure antibodies to the microbe in muscle fluids. Serum and muscle fluid were collected from Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) pigs as well as from SPF pigs challenged with A. pleuropneumoniae which were either treated with effective antibiotics or left as infected controls. The antibody responses measured in serum correlated well to the clinical signs of r… Show more

“…Serum antibodies to M. hyopneumoniae and H. parasuis were analysed by commercial kits according to the manufacturers’ instructions (IDEXX M. hyo . Ab test, IDEXX, Westbrook, USA; Swinecheck HPS, Biovet, St Hyacinthe, Canada) and to A. pleuropneumoniae and P. multocida by indirect ELISA systems [ 30 , 34 ].…”

“…An indirect ELISA, based on a phenol-water extraction of the microbe as coating antigen, was used to measure serum antibodies to A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 in all serum samples collected. The cut-off value for a positive reaction in sera diluted 1/1000 was defined as A 450 = 0.5 [ 15 ].…”
