Relationship between climatic variables and the variation in bulk tank milk composition using canonical correlation analysis

Abstract: A number of studies have addressed the relations between climatic variables and milk composition, but these works used univariate statistical approaches. In our study, we used a multivariate approach (canonical correlation) to study the impact of climatic variables on milk composition, price, and monthly milk production at a dairy farm using bulk tank milk data. Data on milk composition, price, and monthly milk production were obtained from a dairy company that purchased the milk from the farm, while climatic … Show more

“…Finally, THI showed a direct association with SR (0.68 to 0.78) and WS (0.37 to 0.53). Similar direct associations between AT, SR, and THI and inverse relationship between maximum AT, Medium RH, and SR are reported in other studies (Jara et al 2016;Stürmer et al 2018).…”

“…Although average values of milk urea nitrogen (12.80%) were verified in the two rural properties, the minimum value of 2.58% and the maximum value of 25.12% are noteworthy for their range. This range is probably due to variation in consumption of food, as food consumptions is known to be quite variable dairy cows (NRC, 2001), and to the changes in diet according to the seasons (Milani et al, 2015;Stürmer et al, 2018).…”

“…In other words, a significant pairwise correlation does not warrant its participation in the true global structure that governs the relationship between the two domains [ 40 , 41 ]. Likewise, an insignificant pairwise correlation does not necessarily mean that it does not contribute to the true global structure [ 42 ].…”
