This study examined the impact of climate change on pastoral livestock in Boulgou Province located in the sub-humid zone of Burkina Faso. We analysed the annual rainfall and temperature data from 1980 to 2012 using both Mann-Kendall's statistical test to show the long-term annual trends and Standardised Anomaly Index (SAI) to evaluate inter-annual rainfall fluctuations. We also conducted household interviews with 248 respondents to analyse agro-pastoralists' perceptions of climate change and variability, its impacts on livestock production and their acceptance of adaptation measures. A binary regression model was employed to identify the most important factors affecting agro-pastoralists' decisions to adopt specific adaptation measures. Within the period of study, the annual rainfall showed an upward trend, with high inter-annual variability and 818.9 mm of mean annual rainfall. Additionally, the annual minimum and maximum temperatures showed a statistically significant upward trend, with a rate of change of 0.20°C and 0.27°C per decade. The results of the household interviews indicated that most of the respondents (73.4 %) observed temperature changes compared with rainfall amount (1.2 %). To adapt to these changes, they have already adopted some adaptation measures that include the use of crop residue and herd destocking. Other less popular but innovative adaptation measures such as haymaking and use of concentrate livestock feeds could be promoted effectively under a comprehensive climate change adaptation action plan within a reviewed National Policy for Sustainable Livestock Development. This case study is one of the platforms through which poor agro-pastoralists' perception and recommendations can be accommodated in this proposed multi-stakeholder policy review.

The objective of the research is to analyze the relationship between drainage and assisted navigation on the road. More specifically, to show how the drainage contributes to assisted road navigation. First, we extract the drainage of SRTM picture. In a second step, we integrated drainage and roads in a geographic information system (GIS). Finally, we processed in GIS, drainage and road network in order to highlight the characteristics of risk areas, construction sites of bridges, dams and computer aided navigation. The study shows that the drainage network and the road network integrated into a GIS leads to the production of an application that allows users and road managers to learn about the state of the road and help decision. The resulting application is an effective information on the state of the tool to help drive on-road driving and road network management.

Objectif : Cette étude descriptive vise à déterminer la diversité et le bienfondé de pratiques endogènes de gestion des producteurs dans un contexte de dégradation de l'environnement biophysique. Méthodologie et résultats : Les pratiques endogènes ont été recensées au moyen d'enquêtes auprès de personnes ressources. L'analyse du bienfondé (pertinence) des pratiques endogènes a consisté à évaluer leurs intérêts socioéconomiques pour les producteurs et leur efficacité au regard de leurs impacts sur l'environnement révélés par les connaissances scientifiques. Vingt-cinq (25) pratiques endogènes avec des fréquences d'adoption atteignant 95% ont été enregistrées. Soixante-quatre pour cent (64%) des pratiques sont jugées appropriées, 20% mitigées, 12% irrationnelles et 4% sont de nature à aggraver la dégradation de l'environnement biophysique. Conclusion et application des résultats : Cette étude a permis de répertorier et d'apprécier la pertinence des pratiques endogènes de gestion du milieu biophysique par les producteurs de Donsin et de Tougou. Les résultats de cette démarche offrent une contribution à la validation des savoir-faire locaux, nécessaire dans la recherche de solutions appropriées de gestion des ressources naturelles dans les régions fortement dégradées du Burkina Faso. L'étude est réalisée dans la perspective de mise en oeuvre d'initiatives endogènes innovantes pouvant déboucher dans l'avenir sur la gestion durable des ressources naturelles. Nous recommandons l'application de la démarche dans tout le pays, car avec la diversité ethnique (plus de 60 ethnies) il est possible d'identifier d'autres pratiques appropriées de gestion du milieu.
