Relation between the plastic instability and fracture of tensile tested Cu-Sn alloys investigated with the application of acoustic emission technique

Abstract: The work concerns the application of the acoustic emission (AE) method in testing the mechanical properties of continuously cast industrial tin bronze CuSn6P, which reveals tendencies to instable plastic flow connected particularly with the Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect. The relations between the jerky flow connected with the PLC effect, AE intensity and the evolution of a fracture of the investigated alloy subjected to the tensile test at a strain rate (  ) of about 1.2•10 -3 s -1 in the range of tempe… Show more

“…A research project was conducted to determine the effects of thermal factors on the morphological and mechanical behaviour of directionally solidified Cu-Sn alloy [ 17 ]. Cu-20 wt% alloy temperature mapping was performed at the time of solidification by fixing thermocouples from a refrigerated base at various positions, namely, 5, 10, 15, 20, 35, 45, and 60 mm.…”

“…Despite the considerable investigations that have been conducted on the effects of the inelastic deformation and the irregular plastic flow, the yield delay effect and the PLC effect is still debated. Some research deals with the influence of specimen geometry [5,6] and chemical composition [4], other research estimates the influence of loading conditions and external test parameters on the PLC effect [7][8][9][10] and the Lüders behavior [11,12]. Advanced materials testing equipment and high-accuracy measuring systems make it possible to represent complicated loading conditions, which are close to operation conditions.…”

“…Moreover, some recent our publications [17][18][19][20] are related also to above mentioned questions, though especially they are referred to the problems of the influence of plastic instabilities on the fracture mechanisms in deformed metallic materials.…”
