Cattle ticks are a significant health concern in tropical livestock production due to their hematophagous behavior and potential as vectors for human and animal pathogens. In this study, we investigated the tick population present in dairy cattle production, calves, and grazing areas of livestock systems in the northwestern Colombian Amazon. Identification was based on taxonomic keys and molecular markers. Phylogenetic relationships were established using mitochondrial COX1 and 16S genes. Population structure analysis was performed considering age, racial type (B. indicus vs. B. taurus), and the influence of environmental factors and the geomorphological landscape on tick population dynamics. Our findings revealed the presence of a single tick species, with a unique haplotype identified for each mitochondrial gene assessed. Phylogenetic analysis classified the found species within Clade A of the Rhipicephalus microplus complex. Ticks were more prevalent during periods of low rainfall and high temperature, and B. taurus cows exhibited the highest tick abundance. Thus, these results provide insights into the population characteristics and distribution of the tick species present in dairy cattle production systems in the northwestern part of the Colombian Amazon. This information is fundamental for developing targeted strategies based on seasonal variation and host characteristics to mitigate tick infestation severity in the region.

Parasitic diseases are considered to be one of the most prevalent pathologies worldwide. They are characterized as one of the most critical sanitary problems in cattle, causing a decrease in the productive capacity of parasitized animals, which translates into economic losses. Intestinal parasitism in cattle is caused by protozoa and helminths, and its manifestation is generally multi-etiological. Clinical signs in gastrointestinal parasitism may vary depending on parasite load, parasite species, and host immunity. This research aimed to determine the prevalence of the main parasitic families affecting cattle in the central province of the department of Boyacá. A cross-sectional study with simple random sampling was carried out, where 716 fecal samples were taken and processed using a modified Ritchie technique. An overall prevalence of 95,6% was determined, and the most prevalent families were Trichostrongylidae, Eimeriidae, Taeniidae, and Trichuridae. The age showed no significant statistical association with most of the parasitic families, except for the Strongyloididae family. The breeds showed a correlation with the Trichostrongylidae, Eimeriidae, Strongylidae, Chabertiidae, and Taeniidae families. The results show the high prevalence of GIP (gastrointestinal parasites) in cattle of the central province of the department of Boyacá.

En los bovinos, las alteraciones ganglionares mandibulares (AGM) son afecciones con base en ganglios linfáticos de cabeza y cuello que son diagnosticadas comúnmente como actinobacilosis, tanto en las unidades productivas pecuarias como en inspecciones sanitarias oficiales en frigoríficos. Los aspectos epidemiológicos de estas anomalías son escasamente abordados por la bibliografía y se sabe muy poco acerca de los factores que se asocian con las diferentes presentaciones clínicas. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue estimar la prevalencia de AGM en establecimientos bovinos del Departamento Caseros, Provincia de Santa Fe (Argentina), e identificar los factores de riesgo asociados a su presentación. Se realizó un estudio observacional de tipo transversal mediante un muestreo en establecimientos ganaderos (n=27). La prevalencia estimada de AGM fue del 1,3% en unidades productivas de base pastoril. Pudo observarse que las mayores prevalencias se asociaron significativamente o como tendencias a variables relacionadas al manejo de los animales en las unidades productivas. Los establecimientos con balance de trabajo negativo (p= 0,048), participación ocasional del veterinario (p= 0,090), antigüedad de los empleados menor a dos años (p= 0,092) e inadecuada condición corporal de los animales (p= 0,071), fueron los factores asociados a una mayor prevalencia de AGM. Estos factores implican diferentes situaciones que desfavorecen el bienestar de los animales y podrían vincularse a estrés crónico. Se destaca, además, el carácter endémico en la presentación de actinobacilosis y la necesidad de la realización de un mayor número de estudios que den cuenta de posibles tendencias estacionales en cuanto a su forma de presentación y del carácter no esporádico y posiblemente generalizado de esta afección en la región
