Abstract: India is credited with 2603 tree species, and the Global Tree Assessment confirmed that 469 of these species are threatened with extinction. Urgent restoration and conservation efforts are required to prevent the loss of tree diversity. The present study is the first published attempt to reintroduce Buchanania barberi, a Critically Endangered tree endemic to the south Western Ghats (UNESCO World Heritage Site) of Kerala, India, which has only two surviving mature individuals. “…Hills et al (2022) assessed the risk of extinction of six under‐studied genera that have ethnobotanical uses, enabling the establishment of conservation priorities. Dhyani et al (2022) endeavoured to reintroduce the Critically Endangered Buchanania barberi , a tree species that is endemic to the south Western Ghats (a UNESCO World Heritage site) in Kerala, India that has just two mature individuals remaining. In their study, Yang et al (2022) presented a compelling case of how conservation techniques and research were employed to rescue the critically endangered tree species Acer yangbiense , resulting in it becoming one of the most successful conservation stories.…”
