“…Additionally, the α-gal epitope, a carbohydrate responsible for the hyperacute rejection and failure of xenogeneic materials, was absent after decellularization (Macher and Galili, 2008;Pouliot et al, 2016). Then we monitored residual detergents (SDS; Naahidi et al, 2017;Chakraborty et al, 2020) and concentrations that do not interfere with cellular growth were achieved after six washes, similar to the data reported by Cebotari et al (2010).…”

“…The main biocompatibility concern in decellularized ECM materials is the possible presence of residual detergents, toxins, or cell debris (Lee et al, 2014;Keane et al, 2015;Naahidi et al, 2017;Chakraborty et al, 2020). In this proof of concept, we evaluated the overall acute immune response to EndoECM hydrogels and determined its toxic effects over a relatively short time span.…”

“…The predictive plasticity and macrophage polarization on the decellularized scaffold surface help gain detailed information regarding the immunological response. 67,68 However, cell-mediated cytotoxicity plays an important role in the host immune defense. 69 The proliferation and cytotoxic assays are widely used for the biological potential determination of biomaterials.…”

“…Despite the biochemical resemblance and complexity of musculoskeletal-tissue-derived dECM bioinks, there are limitations that must be overcome [152]. Usually, the innate and adaptive immune responses of the donor tissue to dECM are overlooked.…”
