This study aims to determine the growth of Etawah Grade and Etawah Grade x Bligon kids during the pre-weaning period. A total of 13 kids consisted of 6 Etawah Grade kids and 7 Etawah Grade x Bligon kids with single type birth were observed. The birth weight and weaning weight, average daily gain (ADG), the gain of body size, and milk consumption of kids were collected and measured monthly during the pre-weaning period (3 months). The body size variable consisted of body length, body height, hip height, chest width, hip width, chest girth, head length, head width and ear length. All the variables were analyzed using the independent sample T-test. The statistical analysis indicated no significant difference in all variables except the gain of hip width (P <0.05). The gain of hip width on Etawah Grade and Etawah Grade x Bligon were 3.42±1.02 and 4.79±0.81 cm respectively. Birth weight, weaning weight, and ADG of Etawah Grade and Etawah Grade x Bligon kids were 2.94±0.48 and 2.97±0.35 kg; 9.65±1.69 and 9.78±2.44 kg; 0.07±0.16 and 0.08±0.26 kg/head/day, respectively. Milk consumption of Etawah Grade and Etawah Grade x Bligon kids was decreased in a row form the first, second and third month, which were 0.78±0.15 and 0.72±0.16; 0.61±0.11 and 0.56±0.07; 0.42±0.15±0.43±0.18 kg/head/day, respectively. In conclusion, the growth of Etawah Grade and Etawah Grade x Bligon kids during the pre-weaning period was similar.

Exterior characteristics and body measurements of Bligon goat on the different agro-ecological zones in Bantul District, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 143-150. The Bligon goat is one of the goat breeds those farmers mostly keep in Bantul District, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study was conducted to determine the exterior characteristics of Bligon goat in different agro-ecological zones in Bantul District. A total of 478 Bligon goats taken from highlands (146 head), lowlands (163 head), and coastal (169 head) were observed and grouped by age (0-6 months), young (6-18 months), and adults (>18 months). The data observed included qualitative traits (body color distribution and ear shape) and quantitative traits (withers height, chest girth, body length, ear length, and body weight). Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively, and quantitative data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance. The results showed that the head hair coat color of Bligon goats was mostly striped (pied), with the percentages in the highland, lowland, and coastal zones being 71.9%, 69.2%, and 67.7%, respectively. The body hair coat color in the highland (52.1%) and lowland (39.6%) were striped primarily, while on the coast, it was white (70.7%). The crest color in the highland (69.9%) and lowland (44.7%) were mostly a mixture of brown, black, and white, while on the coast, it was white (70.1%). The mane ruff (rewos) color in the highland (88.4%), lowland (57.9%), and coast (59.3%) were primarily a mixture of brown, black, and white. Ear shapes in the highland (92.5%) and lowland (73.6%) are open principally, while in the coastal areas are mostly folded (56.9%). The average body size of Bligon goats in the coastal zone was larger than in the lowlands (P<0.05), and in the lowlands was larger than in the highlands (P<0.05). It was concluded that the different agro-ecological zones in Bantul District have different exterior characteristics in Bligon goats both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Background: Batur and Wonosobo sheep are two Indonesian indigenous sheep breeds from Central Java Province, Indonesia. This study aimed to describe and discriminate the morphostructure of Batur sheep and Wonosobo sheep with body measurements and body indices. Methods: Fourteen body measurements and nine body indices were measured from 37 Batur and 83 Wonosobo sheep. Two statistical methods of factor and discriminant analyses were computed with SPSS 25.0 program to describe the sheep’s morphostructure and characterization. Result: The factor analysis in body measurements was obtained three principal components (PCs) that explain about 76.58% (Wonosobo sheep) and 73.51% (Batur sheep) of the total variance in animals’ morphostructure. Meanwhile, the factor analysis in body indices was obtained on three PCs that explain about 79.16% (Batur sheep) and 95.57% (Wonosobo sheep) of the total variance in animals’ morphostructure. About 95.2% of Wonosobo sheep and 92.7% of Batur sheep can be classified with body measurements (RW, SW, EL, EW, RH and TL). Meanwhile, about 75.7% of Batur sheep and 80.7% of Wonosobo sheep can be classified with body indices (TI and CI). In conclusion, Batur and Wonosobo sheep can be accurately characterized by their body measurements.
