Registration of ‘Thoroughbred’ Barley

Abstract: Registration of 'Oklee' Wheat relatively early maturing and produces spikes 1.3 d earlier 'Oklee' is a hard red spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) than 2375 and 0.6 d earlier than Oxen (PI 596770), the most (Reg. no. CV-963, PI 634553) developed and released by the widely grown cultivar in Minnesota since the late 1990s. Oklee Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station in cooperation is a semidwarf cultivar and averages 75 cm, the same height with USDA-ARS in January 2003. It was named after a town as Oxen, an… Show more

“…Streaker was resistant to stripe rust at both high‐rainfall locations. The intensity of the stripe rust epidemics at these locations is apparent from the stripe rust severity of ‘Thoroughbred’, a cultivar released by the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station (Brooks et al, 2005b), which averaged 82.5% severity over the 2 yr. Streaker was significantly more susceptible to scald than Alba and comparable to Maja (Table 7). .…”

“…Marchal]. Secretariat has expressed higher levels of resistance to leaf rust than the cultivars ‘Atlantic’ (PI 665041; Brooks et al, 2014), ‘Price’ (PI 632708; Brooks et al, 2005a), and ‘Callao’ (PI 592800; Price et al, 1996) and is more resistant than ‘Thoroughbred’ (PI 634933; Brooks et al, 2005b) to powdery mildew and leaf rust. In addition to good kernel physical characteristics, Secretariat has a mean starch concentration (56.9%) similar to Price and Callao and a protein concentration (9.8%) similar to Atlantic, Thoroughbred, Price, and Callao.…”

“…Atlantic is a widely adapted, six‐row, short‐awned, short‐statured winter barley with good winter hardiness, good straw strength, and high grain volume weight. In addition to good kernel physical characteristics, Atlantic has higher starch concentration than Price and Callao and higher protein concentration than the cultivar Thoroughbred (PI 634933; Brooks et al, 2005b). This combination of kernel quality and grain compositional traits provides the feed and biofuel (ethanol and grain by‐products) industries with a valuable feedstock (Hicks et al, 2011; Khatibi et al, 2011).…”
