Registration of ‘DALZ 1308’ zoysiagrass

Abstract: ‘DALZ 1308’ (Reg. no. CV‐285, PI 691612) is a first‐generation interspecific hybrid developed in 2004 by crossing a genotype of Zoysia minima (Colenso) Zotov and Z. matrella (L.) Merr. ‘Diamond.’ After field evaluations in Dallas, TX (2004–2009) and Gainesville, FL (2006–2008), DALZ 1308 was selected for advancement to the 2013 Warm‐season Putting Greens National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP). DALZ 1308 was evaluated at 10 NTEP locations (2013–2018) as well as in Dallas, TX (2014–2017) and Gainesville, F… Show more

“…Genotypes with ball roll of greater than or equal to Diamond included Z. minima derivatives. Among these, the top statistical performers included TAES 5567‐27, TAES 5458‐10 (DALZ 1308 tested in 2013 NTEP; Chandra et al., 2020) and 5458‐12 (DALZ 1309 tested in 2013 NTEP) where ball roll distance was significantly ( P < .0001) greater than Diamond and L1F under low input management. Morris (2017) also reported Z. minima hybrids DALZ 1306 through 1309 having similar or greater ball roll distance than Diamond and L1F.…”

“…During the 2013 NTEP trials, spring density ratings were also lower than summer ratings and higher than observed in this study. Furthermore, Z. minima x Z. matrella derivatives, TAES 5458-10 ('DALZ 1308′; Chandra et al, 2020) and 5458-12 (DALZ 1309), were either greater than or equal to Diamond in the 2013 NTEP, suggesting that under standard putting greens management conditions, some of these a Pedigree numbers were assigned based on female and male parental genotypes; Pedigrees 1 through 5 consist of commonly used zoysia species (Z. matrella and Z. japonica)…”

“…Additionally, 'M85' (Z. matrella; 2015) was selected for producing less seedheads than Diamond, and 'Prizm' (Z. matrella; 2017) was identified based on its fine leaf texture and dark green color (Doguet et al, 2016(Doguet et al, , 2017. 'Lazer' (Z. matrella × Z. minima) was released from Texas A&M University in 2020 and was characterized by its dwarf canopy height and increased tolerance to environmental stresses compared with other zoysiagrasses including the intraspecific hybrid's male parent, Diamond (Chandra et al, 2020).…”
