The article addresses the findings of the poll, conducted by lecturers and students of the National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering. The poll objective was to identify the level of ecological culture demonstrated by the residents of Moscow, the Russian capital and a megacity. Residents of its old and new administrative districts were among the respondents. The author verifies the scope and extension of such concepts as ecological culture and environmental safety, sheds light on the structure of environmental safety. The responses, given by the respondents, are used in the rating of environmental hazards of which air pollution is a number one threat. Moreover, the poll addressed such problems as domestic waste removal, pollution of Moscow rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies with waste water. Besides the polling method, employed by the author, he used the retrospective analysis of news items. Moreover, environmental monitoring results and opinions, expressed by the authors of research articles, were analyzed; methods of deduction, induction, classification and split of concepts were also used by the author.

The formation of human life conditions in residential areas depends on the state of ecological balance in these territories, which, in turn, relays the influence of various natural and anthropogenic environmental factors. From a practical point of view, this influence is increasingly becoming cumulative or even complex. The article discusses the need to create a system of integrated (aggregate) monitoring of residential areas, providing visualization of predictive estimates of the spread of pollution. To solve such a problem, it is necessary to develop a theoretical model (concept) of complex (aggregate, generalized) monitoring of the ecological situation. This approach is based on the use of the principle of combining data on the nature and parameters of the main air pollutants, infra- and ultrasonic, as well as electromagnetic radiation, vibrations, meteorological parameters and the structure of landscape features of the zone. Modern automated monitoring systems of natural and technogenic areas are considered. Their advantages and disadvantages are noted. It is concluded that a system is necessary to develop, which solves a wider range of tasks.

The aim of this study was to assess the impact of technology-related factors of the urban environment on population and to establish long-time tasks for business in order to improve the ecological situation. We used the materials from the Federal Budgetary Health Institution-Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Voronezh Region‖ for 2014-2018. It was established that among the analyzed parameters that determine the complex technology-related load (CL) on the environmentthe level of atmospheric air pollution with manmade chemicals, sanitary-chemical parameters of drinking water quality, the level of soil pollution in residential areas, traffic noisethe largest contribution to it is made by air pollution (33.0-58.5%). The assessment of public health risk due to the effects of technology-related factors showed unacceptable risk levels associated with the presence of soot, formaldehyde, chromium +6 compounds, nitrogen dioxide and copper oxide in the air, as well as high and extreme risk levels due to the traffic noise. In the conditions of the city, environmental protection measures are required to reduce the level of the influence of these factors on the population; it can be achieved by the involvement of the participants of city-planning business in solving the environmental problems of the city.
