Region-Based Selective Encryption for Medical Imaging

Abstract: Abstract. The confidential access to medical images becomes significant in recent years. In this paper, we propose two types of region-based selective encryption schemes to achieve secure access for medical images. The first scheme randomly flips a subset of the bits belonging to the coefficients in a Region of Interest inside of several wavelet sub-bands, which is performed in compression domain but only incurs little loss on compression efficiency. The second scheme employs AES to encrypt a certain region's … Show more

“…The delay depends on the medical image size and complexity of the security algorithm. The image size determines time required for the encryption process, with larger images having longer processing time [6]. The data size has a significant impact on encryption schemes because it determines the speed of the process.…”

“…Encryption methods for medical images in the compression domain are mainly based on selective encryption such as the concept of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to encrypt the selective JPEG2000 bitstream [5], Region of Interest (ROI) [6], or sensitive precincts within medical images [7]. Different from other visual data, medical images may contain some important visual information of diseases or afflictions to the human body.…”
