“…Heide (1965) found an interaction between temperature and auxin and cytokinin levels when culturing begonia leaf segments. This was in contrast to the work of Pierik and Ruibing (1973) who suggested that bulblet production was not significantly affected by duration of storage. This was in contrast to the work of Pierik and Ruibing (1973) who suggested that bulblet production was not significantly affected by duration of storage.…”

“…For other bulbous and non‐bulbous plants, explant effects on growth of the organs have been described. In Hyacinthus (Pierik and Ruibing 1973), Hippeastrum (Langens‐Gerrits, unpublished results) and Lachenalia (Perrignon 1992), larger bulblets regenerate from large explants than from small explants. Also in rose (Marcelis‐Van Acker and Scholten 1995) and Vigna radiata (Gulati and Jaiwal 1992) larger organs were obtained from large explants.…”

“…Pierik & Ruibing (1973) stated that the reaction of the different bulbs show a difference in the need for regeneration and growth even if bulbs of the same size and age are used. Research done by Hanks & Rees (1979) showed that the better regeneration was obtained from the outside twin scales of Narcissus, while Hanks (1986) stated that the intermediate twin scales of Narcissus produced the most plantlets.…”
