Regeneration and sustainable development of vernacular architecture

Abstract: Vernacular architecture is the source of the historical development of architecture and the carrier of traditional culture. It is also the emotional sustenance of contemporary Chinese people’s beautiful homesickness. With the rapid expansion of urbanization in China, a widespread phenomenon of “hollow villages” has emerged in rural areas, and there are many abandoned rural buildings all over the countryside. Therefore, the protection and sustainable development of rural architecture are imminent. Based on the … Show more

“…This means there is a need to ensure a balance between energy and environmental reinforcement with the preservation of the tangible and intangible values of vernacular architecture [22]. This is important, because it is a historical source of architectural development and a carrier of traditional culture, which can be the inspiration for new design strategies in the future [23].…”

“…To think of the graph as an actual discrete geometry, we might instead want to move the geometric information from the weights to the graph structure. Forthcoming work by one of us and collaborators [35] presents an approximate numerical algorithm to accomplish this task. Furthermore, once we have a graph it's natural to wonder whether we can use it, not just to compute entropies, but to define a discretized version of a quantum state, by putting a tensor network on top of the graph.…”

“…And the articles [4][5][6] examine the evolution of the distribution of traditional villages in China, considering factors like geography, society, and culture. Moreover, rural revitalization have become a trend since 2017 in China, to activate village tourism, traditional industry empowerment and organic renewal of village, while maintaining their unique culture heritage [7][8][9]. For example, the work [10] redesigned vernacular architecture of Wen village and adopt traditional building techniques to enhance both the local cultural heritage and the rural development without blindly following urban globalisation.…”
