Reference values of mandibular condylar growth activity: a study of SUVmax with quantitative bone SPECT/CT

Abstract: Objective To assess the condylar growth activity (CGA) with quantitative bone single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) to establish reference values of maximum standardized uptake value (SUV max ) and cutoff values for identifying active unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) in different ages. MethodsWe analyzed the CGA of 58 UCH patients and that of 125 volunteers as a control group by SUV max of quantitative bone SPECT/CT imaging. The SUV max and the uptake difference between… Show more

“…Furthermore, Zhang et al [25] explored the value of skeletal maximum SUV obtained by SPECT/CT in the differential diagnosis of bone metastases from benign lesions. Lin et al [26] assessed the mandibular condylar growth activity with SPECT/CT to establish reference values of maximum SUV. We consider that the bone SPECT maximum SUV can be an effective tool for the characterization of jaw pathologies and normal structures in the head and neck.…”
