Reference range of complete blood count, Ret-He, immature reticulocyte fraction, reticulocyte production index in healthy babies aged 1–4 months

Abstract: Establishing reference ranges of the complete blood count (CBC), reticulocyte hemoglobin content (Ret-He), immature reticulocyte fraction (IRF), and reticulocyte production index (RPI) helps diagnose a disease related to the changes in erythrocyte indices, white blood count, platelets, and reticulocytes, especially in babies. Therefore, the study aims to establish a reference range for CBC and reticulocyte parameters in healthy babies aged 1–4 months. The study design was a cross-sectional study with descripti… Show more

“…Before transfusion, hemoglobin mean nadir was 78 g/L (range: 40–114 g/L) and was reached at Day (D)13 in average (range: D1–D25). Mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were strictly normal for age in all cases 17–19 . Reticulocytosis (defined by a reticulocyte count >150G/L) was inconstant at the time of anemia (Table 1).…”

“…Mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were strictly normal for age in all cases. [17][18][19] Reticulocytosis (defined by a reticulocyte count >150G/L) was inconstant at the time of anemia (Table 1). All children had normal white blood cell count (seven missing).…”

“…It is easier to obtain, can be put into clinical use immediately, does not require long-term verification such as scientific research experiments, and greatly reduces the cost of testing and many other advantages. IRF refers to the proportion of young reticulocytes, which reflects erythropoietic activity and is the first sign of blood recovery [ 35 , 36 ]. The quantitative and morphological characteristics of reticulocytes are associated with the aggressiveness of the tumor and the more severe clinical status of the patient [ 37 ].…”

“…Conventionally, iron deficiency diagnosis is based on determining ferritin, transferrin saturation, and soluble transferrin receptor, but these biomarkers are strongly influenced by inflammation and infection ( Ringoringo et al, 2023 ). RHE and RPI have been recognized the sensitive indices in the diagnosis of anemia.…”
