Die Einzelheiten der eben geschilderten Zonenschmelz-Fraktioniernng gehen aus Tabelle 1 (8. S. 725) hervor. In der ersten Spalte steht die Nummer der Fraktion, die zonengeschmolzen wurde. Jede Fraktion kann in neun Unterfraktionen aufgeteilt werden, wobei jeder Nummer einer Unterfraktion ein bestimmter Schmelzpunktsbereich zukommt (Tabelle 2). 'Clemmensen 1913 erstmals Ketone und Aldehyde mit amalgamiertem Zink und Salzsaure zu gesattigten Kohlenwasserstoffen reduziert hat, ist eine Fulle von Arbeiten erschienen. in denen von dieser Reaktion praparativ Gebrauch gemacht wird. Obwohl die Vorgange bei der Clemmensen-Reduktion durch die Elektronentheorie gedeutet werden konnten. gelang es nicht, fur gewisse Anomalien des Reaktionsverlaufes eine befriedigende Erklarung zu finden. Es wird versucht, diese Schwierigkeiten durch eine eingehende Betrachtung der elektrokinetischen Grundlagen und der elektronentheoretischen Vorstellungen vom ubergangszustand der an der Reaktion beteiligten Atome und Molekule zu beseitigen und einen Reaktionsmechanismus aufzustellen, welcher alle wichtigen Verzweigungen der Reaktion einschlieBt.
