Reduction of Microbial Content (Escherichia coli) in Well Water Using Various Processes: Microfiltration Membranes, Aeration and Bentonite Adsorption

Abstract: Water is a basic need for living things. This research aims to know the reduction of microbe content (Escherichia coli) in well water by using microfiltration membrane, adsorption using bentonite and aeration. The capability of those three methods in reducing E. coli was examined on the variety of time contact: 30, 60, 90, 120,180 and 300 minutes. The result of the research shows that using those methods has shown that the optimum percentage of E. coli reduction by using microfiltration membrane with 23 Most P… Show more

“…Diarrhea is an abnormal condition of defecation, occurring three or more times a day and characterized by a mushy or liquid consistency, sometimes manifesting as mostly water [1,2]. Diarrhea is a global health problem, especially in developing countries, including Indonesia, in which a high incidence of diarrhea in terms of mortality and morbidity remains one of the health problems demanding serious management [3]. Diarrhea can affect individuals of all age groups, including toddlers, children, adults, and even the elderly.…”

“…Bakong Asoê is highly susceptible to heavy metal contamination (such as Pb, Cd, Fe, and Hg) and microbiological contamination from Coliform bacteria like Escherichia during processing, storage, and sale [12]. Intoxication caused by Coliform bacteria can result in human digestive tract disorders such as diarrhea, vomiting, and fever [13][14][15]. Therefore, this comprehensive study aimed to thoroughly analyze and quantify the levels of heavy metal contamination and identify and enumerate the microbial contaminants present in Aceh's traditional chewing tobacco (Bakông Asóê).…”

“…On the other hand, the world is currently facing a health problem characterized by the emergence of numerous cases of antimicrobial resistance caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa [10,11]. The increasing incidence of resistance among pathogenic microorganisms against antimicrobial agents is primarily attributed to the inappropriate use of these agents in treating various infectious diseases [12].…”
