Redox-Responsive 2-Aminoanthraquinone Core–Shell Particles for Structural Colors and Carbon Capture

Abstract: Quinone-containing materials have attracted significant attention for energy storage and electroswing carbon capture. Tailored redox-responsive core−shell particles are obtained in the present work via semicontinuous starved-feed emulsion polymerization and subsequent postmodification strategies with redox-responsive quinone moieties. The use of glycidyl methacrylate within the shell material offers the possibility of a ring-opening reaction with the redox-responsive 2-aminoanthraquinone (2-AAQ), which possess… Show more

“…3-Ferrocenyl propylamine was synthesized according to the literature, starting from ferrocenyl carbaldehyde, which was reacted first to 2-cyanovinyl ferrocene. 39 The Preussmann test was carried out according to the literature in ethanol 40 and the poly(ferrocenyl methyl methacrylate) functionalized polystyrene-divinylbenzene particles (PSDVB@PFMMA) were synthesized and characterized as described previously. 41…”

“…Via subsequent cross-linking strategies of the soft matrix after film preparation, the mechanochromic response becomes fully reversible. , With the incorporation of stimuli-responsive copolymers, CSP-based materials can additionally respond to external triggers from the surrounding environment. As of today, feasible stimuli comprise redox chemistry, magnetic fields, solvents, ,, light, , and temperature. ,,, …”
