Redesign and Characterization of a Single-Cylinder Optical Research Engine to Allow Full Optical Access and Fast Cleaning during Combustion Studies

Abstract: This work describes the update of an optical engine design with the aim of increasing its capabilities when used for combustion studies. The criteria followed to perform the optical engine redesign were: maximize the optical accessibility to the combustion chamber, minimize the time consumed to clean the optical parts, and minimize the adaptation costs. To meet these requirements, a modular design using window-holders to fit the windows in the optical flange, was proposed. This novel solution allows optical ac… Show more

“…The most important sources of transportation-related GHGs include passenger cars and light-duty trucks, such as sport utility cars, pickup trucks and minivans. In particular, recent engine research studies in pollutant emissions underlined as CO 2 , and also other pollutant emission as soot, nitrogen oxides (NOX) and carbon monoxide (CO) are strongly linked to main parameters as the fuel economy, the injection strategy and to engine efficiency (Benajes et al, 2018;Wei et al, 2018;De Luca et al, 2018;Marseglia et al, 2017;Piazzullo et al, 2017;Catapano et al, 2016;. As shown in Figure 3, road transport is known to be one of major source of atmospheric pollution (EPA, 2017;Colvile et al, 2001).…”
