Redescription ofDiclidophoroides maccallumi(Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) from the gills of longfin hake,Phycis chesteri, from the Gulf of St. Lawrence

Abstract: Diclidophoroides maccallumi is redescribed from the gills of longfin hake, Phycis chesteri, caught off the coast of Newfoundland in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Specific characteristics such as the number of genital corona spines and morphometric measurements are within the range limits given in previous descriptions of this species from red hake, Urophycis chuss. The detailed morphology of the clamp, the male genital terminalia, and the female reproductive system is presented. This redescription confirms the res… Show more

“…As stated by Mamaev (1976a), the splitting of Diclidophora into two families by Yamaguti (1963) was unwarranted. The distinct attachments of the lamellate extension onto the peripheral sclerites Cl and the distal portion of dl in the clamp of Macrouridophora n. g. may represent a primitive/plesiomorphic character (see Rubec, 1991a). The unusual specialisation, separate male and female genital apertures in D. denticulata, D. luscae, D. pollachii and D. esmarkii, is considered as subgeneric characteristic.…”
