Red wine antioxidant resveratrol‐modified cardiac stem cells regenerate infarcted myocardium

Abstract: To study the efficiency of maintaining the reduced tissue environment via pre-treatment with natural antioxidant resveratrol in stem cell therapy, we pre-treated male Sprague-Dawley rats with resveratrol (2.5 mg/kg/day gavaged for 2 weeks). After occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD), adult cardiac stem cells stably expressing EGFP were injected into the border zone of the myocardium. One week after the LAD occlusion, the cardiac reduced environment was confirmed in resveratrol-treate… Show more

“…Diphenylethene is a group of natural organic compounds with a C 6 -C 2 -C 6 unit in the parent nucleus, which have a variety of biological activities, such as anti-tumor, antihypertensive, ester, antiplatelet aggregation, antibacterial and so on. For example, resveratrol is a widely known natural product, which exhibited significant pharmacological activities [23][24][25][26] and considered a plant antitoxin. The structure of compound 5 can be regarded as the oxidized and cyclization of the vinyl group (C 2 ) in diphenylethene.…”

“…Both antioxidant activity and increasing of nitric oxide bioavailability actions of RSV are required to exert its anti‐ischemic effects (Leikert et al., 2002). Studying of cardiac stem cells demonstrated that RSV could potentiate the regeneration of infarcted myocardium (Gurusamy, Ray, Lekli, & Das, 2010). Recently, several lines of evidences have shown the role of micro‐RNAs (miR‐21, miR‐20b, miR‐27a, miR‐9, miR‐29) in cardio‐protective effects of RSV (Mukhopadhyay, Pacher, & Das, 2011).…”

“…En modelos animales se ha demostrado que la administración de resveratrol puede prolongar la esperanza de vida (Valenzano et al, 2006) debido a sus efectos de protección cardiovascular en modelos de lesión miocardio (Hattori et al, 2002;Juric et al, 2007;Gurusamy et al, 2010) hipertensión (Juric et al, 2007;) y diabetes tipo 2 (Zhang et al, 2009;Zhang et al,2010).…”
