“…Well-known phosphors include [Zn(Mn)] 2 SiO 4 , [1] but, depending on the coordination environment, either green (tetrahedrally coordinated Mn 2 + ) or red to pink (octahedrally coordinated Mn 2 + ) luminescence can also be observed from simple halogenido complexes. [2,3] Besides photoluminescence, triboluminescence [4,5] as well as electroluminescence [6][7][8][9][10][11] have also been observed for certain tetraalkylammonium salts. In a high proportion of the studied optically active manganate(II) salts, the counter cations have been organic ammonium ions.…”

“…By contrast, the emission band of the [Mn] Al -doped sample rather lies at a longer wavelength of 640 nm, and is slightly broader than that of the [Mn] Cu -doped sample. These orange and red emission bands have not been reported yet, 10,11,13,20) and are thought to be the intrinsic emission bands due to the [Mn] Cu and [Mn] Al centers, respectively. Both emission bands are thought to be attributed to the 3d 5 -3d 5 internal transition from 4 T 1 to 6 A 1 in Mn 2þ centers occupying the Cu or Al site.…”

“…9) It has been reported that Mn-doped CuAlS 2 shows red luminescence and has a relatively strong excitation band in the near-UV wavelength. 10,11) The red powder electroluminescence using CuAlS 2 :Mn has also been reported. 12) Recently, we have succeeded in synthesizing CuAlS 2 :Mn by a solid-statereaction method in an open-tubular furnace at atmospheric pressure.…”

“…Novotortsev et al [12] studied CuGaTe 2 Mn and reported Mn 2+ ions containing Mn on one or two cation sites and superparamagnetic clusters. Sato et al [13] studied the 5 mole% Mn doped CGS single crystal having no photoluminescence (PL) and no fine structures can be observed below the absorption edge. Mn can be incorporated into the chalcopyrite of the CGS lattice by suitably adjusting the growth parameters.…”
